Why Individualized Education?
Individualized education would solve many of the problems that our current system faces. Children learn at different rates and in different manners. Some learn quickly in spurts and some learn at a slower pace. We gain nothing by trying to force children to be at a certain level at a certain age. That way of thinking will always yield the result of classifying some children as behind and can inhibit some children from getting as far as they are capable.
If it’s student-paced, will my older child be with younger kids or will my younger child be with older kids? Yes, to some degree. There will also be thresh-holds for maturity levels.
Does Individualized Education mean my child will work at a computer alone and not work with teachers and other children? Absolutely not! It means that children will be seen for their individual strengths and weaknesses. They will be able to work in smaller groups where they will have more interaction with teachers and more opportunities to collaborate with other children who are sometimes grouped together because of a similar lever of achievement in some area or sometimes grouped so that each child has a specific strength that will benefit the group when they are collaborating.
Encourages goal setting (with parents or a mentor)
