Continuous Assessment
Educators learn about the importance of assessment in school and are then faced with the difficult challenge of putting it into practice in the classroom. The truth about meaningful assessment is that it is difficult and time consuming. One could be forever grading work/papers/tests and it still isn’t enough. All that data also needs to be compiled and analyzed to really mean anything. Lucky for us, we are in a day and age that has technology. We should be using that technology to administer, grade and compile assessment data that is useful in helping teachers to give their students a more individualized education experience.
Students should be given little quizzes after every concept they are introduced to. It should happen daily and several times a day and technology should be used so that the data gained from those quizzes is immediately analyzed and available. Such frequent assessment would prevent children from stressing about “big exams” and neutralize the problem of inaccuracy on an assessment because of a “bad day”. Children will benefit from frequent and timely feedback.
Currently done in a myriad of places eg: Wii Resort, Khan Academy
